Information Systems operates and maintains the City's computer system.   The department plays a critical role by providing the infrastructure over which information and communications are delivered to all other City departments, who then deliver their services to the citizens of Bryant. The staff maintains the City’s extensive infrastructure comprised of 6 Windows servers, network routers, copper cabling, and wireless links, leased circuits and over 100 computer workstations that provide services such as Email, Internet, Firewall and applications dedicated to individual departments. External network connectivity is managed by staff, including City of Bryant web site www.cityofbryant.org, VPN connectivity, and the NCIC law enforcement connection.

Network security is a primary focus, and significant resources are devoted to virus and SPAM mitigation, protection from unauthorized external sources, and internal auditing for violations of the City’s acceptable use policy. The department is responsible for the many software applications and major databases that run on the City network. The staff works with other City departments to evaluate their requests for software support and to provide assistance in selecting and acquiring appropriate versions of the software from a vendor.
